For tickets purchased on or after April 3, 2026, United lists checked-bag fees starting at $45 when prepaid, $50 in the airport lobby, and $75 at the gate. For tickets bought before April 3, 2026, the listed starting amounts are $35 prepaid, $40 in the lobby, and $65 at the gate.

Ways To Keep A Carry-On Without Changing Fares

A traveler may keep a carry-on by qualifying through an included route, qualifying MileagePlus status, Star Alliance Gold status, or an eligible United credit-card benefit. United may also offer a paid option in My Trips that adds a carry-on or converts the ticket to standard Economy.
