The smartest way to buy Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route tickets is to decide whether you are crossing from Toyama to Nagano, making a round trip to Murodo, or turning back at Kurobe Dam. There is no single flat admission charge: one through-ticket covers the connected cable cars, buses, ropeway, and electric bus between the stations printed on it.

The route operates from April 15 through November 30 in 2026. A full Tateyama Station–Ogizawa crossing usually needs six to eight hours once sightseeing and transfers are included, so the ticket choice also sets the shape of your day.

Which Ticket Should You Buy?

A one-way through-ticket is the right choice when your trip continues from Toyama toward Nagano, or in the reverse direction. A round-trip ticket works better when your hotel and luggage remain on one side of the mountains.

Full crossing: choose Tateyama Station–Ogizawa, or include Dentetsu Toyama if you want the local railway bundled into the fare.
Murodo day trip: start and finish at the same gateway, with enough time for Mikurigaike Pond, mountain walks, or the spring snow corridor.
Kurobe Dam round trip: use the Toyama-side return fare when the dam is your farthest stop.

Alpine Route Ticket Options And Current Fares

Regular adult fares in 2026 run from ¥10,940 for a gateway-to-gateway crossing to ¥19,320 for a Dentetsu Toyama–Kurobeko round trip. Seasonal early-purchase products reduce selected routes when bought by the stated deadline.

The USD estimates below use roughly ¥162 to $1, close to the early July 2026 market rate. Card issuers may use a different rate, so treat the dollar figures as planning numbers rather than the checkout total.

Child fares: travelers ages 6–11 pay the child rate, usually about half the adult fare. The official fare table lists children under 6 as fare-free.

Web Tickets, Same-Day Sales, And Timed Departures

Web tickets let you pay ahead and reserve the departure time for the first controlled segment. Same-day tickets remain available when web inventory is sold out, but the departure you want may be full and a wait may follow.

From Tateyama Station, the controlled boarding time applies to the Tateyama Cable Car. From Ogizawa, it applies to the Kanden Tunnel Electric Bus. Other connections generally do not need advance reservations, though queues and service gaps can affect the day.

Use the route’s official fare checker to confirm the current price for your exact start and end stations. Published fares are current from February 27, 2026, and remain subject to change.

Web buyers must collect the physical ticket from an eligible ticket machine before boarding. Same-day counters open 20 minutes before the first service at Tateyama Station and 40 minutes before the first service at Ogizawa.

Do You Need To Reserve In Advance?

Advance purchase is strongly advised for the snow-wall season, Japanese holiday periods, mid-August, and early October. Same-day travel is still possible, but a later boarding time can leave too little room for sightseeing or onward buses.

Online sales are released in date blocks rather than for the full season at once. In 2026, early-purchase discounts require booking five days ahead for June 1–July 25 departures, then 10 days ahead for July 26–November 3 departures.

Choose an early departure for a full crossing.
Allow extra transfer time on weekends and public holidays.
Check the final bus from Ogizawa if continuing to Nagano; the published last express bus leaves at 5:00 p.m.
Do not depend on buying or exchanging a ticket the day before travel; station sales are handled on the travel day.

Changes, Cancellations, And Ticket Validity

Ticket rules differ by product, so read the conditions shown before payment. Discount fares trade flexibility for a lower price, while the normal web fare is the safer choice when your date or route may move.

The current summer and autumn early-purchase products charge ¥1,000, about $6, per person after the free-cancellation deadline. Staff cannot change the travel section of those discount tickets at a station counter.

One-way and round-trip through-tickets can remain valid for five days from the first day of use when the itinerary includes an overnight stay. They do not provide unlimited rides, so backtracking beyond the purchased route may require another fare.

Where To Stay Before The Route

Toyama is the practical base for an early west-to-east crossing, while Omachi, Omachi Onsenkyo, or Nagano suits an Ogizawa start. Sleeping near the gateway removes a long approach before a day that already contains several transfers.

Plan The Day Around Your End Point

A ticket is only useful if its endpoint matches your onward transport. Full crossings are rewarding, but they create a luggage and hotel problem when the room is back on the side where the day began.

Cross once when moving between Toyama or Kanazawa and Nagano or Matsumoto. Send large luggage ahead rather than carrying it through every transfer.
Return from Murodo when mountain scenery is the priority and you have only one base. This cuts the day before the ropeway and dam sections.
Return from Kurobeko when Kurobe Dam is essential but changing hotels is not. The fare is higher and the schedule needs an early start.

Private cars cannot travel between Tateyama Station and Ogizawa. Drivers making the full crossing need vehicle forwarding or a plan to retrieve the car later.

The Ticket To Choose For Each Trip

The full one-way fare is the strongest choice for travelers changing regions; the Murodo round trip is the simplest mountain day; and the Kurobeko round trip fits travelers who want the dam without moving hotels.

For a Toyama-to-Nagano transfer: buy Dentetsu Toyama to Ogizawa if starting downtown, or Tateyama Station to Ogizawa if arriving by car or local transport.
For the snow corridor: choose a Murodo return ticket and reserve an early Tateyama Cable Car departure.
For Kurobe Dam from Nagano: Ogizawa is the shorter and cheaper gateway for a return visit.
For uncertain weather: use a normal fare with the clearest change terms rather than a restricted discount product.
